The Community Covenant grant scheme is to help local projects that aim to strengthen the ties between members of the armed forces community and the wider community in which they live. The aims of the covenant are to:
- encourage local communities to support the armed forces community in their areas, and vice versa
- promote understanding and awareness among the public of issues affecting the armed forces community
- recognise and remember the sacrifices made by the armed forces community
- encourage activities which help to integrate the armed forces community into local life.
How much is available? Up to £30 million has been set aside for this scheme, to be awarded over the next four years.
Applications will be considered for funding between £100 to £250,000.
Who can apply? • Public service providers e.g. Council Departments • Health service providers • Town and parish council • Businesses such as shops and restaurants • Charities and community groups • Individual members of the public.
Examples of Funded Projects • Replacement of the Scout and Guide Headquarters with a new building that can be used by community groups • Services developed to prevent social exclusion among ex-service personnel and their families • A film project involving local schools exploring the lives of Servicemen and women
